Novices of the Old Ways ~ Indianapolis is a progressive Witchcraft community based in Indianapolis and its surrounding areas. Progressive Witchcraft is not based on a formal tradition, but rather a philosophy of using whatever methods necessary to best serve the immediate and broader communities. Connection with Deity, whomever the individual or group at large communes with is of vital importance.

The term “Novice,” meaning “new”, does not mean that everyone within NOW is uninitiated or new to Witchcraft. Instead, it is meant to remind us that we never stop learning and on the path of the Craft, it is only through the open mind of the Novice that wisdom is truly attained (for we stop learning the moment we believe ourselves to be “masters”). Our goal is to continue to learn about the Craft, ourselves, and how we can best aid the health of our community and planet.
Novices of the Old Ways originated in NYC where it continues to thrive, serving that community with members, spanning the five boroughs of NYC, as well as NJ, CT, LI and beyond coming together for open Sabbats and workshops. NOW also houses the Coven of the Lunar Temple and the NOW Men’s Group. NOW ~ IN is founded by a member of the NOW community and hived-off member of the Coven of the Lunar Temple.

NOW ~ Indianapolis’s practices are Wiccan with influences from Espiritismo, Native American, Ocha, and Voudon practices. The Pantheon we use is primarily European (from the Greek, Irish, and Welsh Pantheons), but we frequently receive visits from the Egyptian Deities, as well as the Orisha and Loa. We frequently utilize Trance Prophecy Regression (Ritual Mediumship) and Astrological influences into our rituals. We are eclectic, but selectively so. We invoke or evoke Deity after careful consideration of the purpose and needs of the invocation or evocation. Most Sabbats will be open to the public.

In NOW, we strive to be in constant communication with the Genus Loci, plant and animal spirits of the Land. We use Magick and ritual to better ourselves and our community. While NOW~ Indianapolis does have a web presence, its focus is on meeting in person to learn and practice our Craft. Members are encouraged to come out and mingle!
